Yellow Oriental Spruce
Picea orientalis "Skylands"

Its ultimate mature height is 35 feet x 12 feet. This tree is a good choice as a specimen, or for smaller gardens where a tall conifer is wanted without sacrificing too much horizontal space. The new growth is chartreuse-yellow. The needles retain their golden charm all year round, contrasting with the greener needles in the shaded interior of the tree. In winter, the golden tones create lots of interest. The small pine cones start out a reddish-purple cones that turn brown as they mature. Full Sun to part shade.

Weeping Norway Spruce
Picea abies "Pendula"

A rare, exquisite looking conifer that creates a great focal point for any garden. They are very slow growing and easy to care for. This variety of spruce grows outward instead of upward but we stake them as young trees so they will grow at least 6 ft tall. Because the Weeping Norway Spruce is so trainable, it is very suitable for small garden areas and especially rock gardens. It makes a wonderful centerpiece and also looks attractive draped over walls or against hillsides. You can prune the tips of the branches to suit your landscape. Weeping Norway Spruce trees grow best in full sun, although they will tolerate partial shade.

Verdoni Cypress Hinoki
Chamaecyparis obtusa "Verdoni"

'A beautiful textured evergreen with dark green interior and yellow ends. It is a very dependable, yellow selection, faster growing than 'Nana Lutea'; slower than 'Aurea'. The yellow foliage does not burn in full sun. This plant will reach 8’ t but only 4’ W. Can handle full sun but will also do well in ½ day of shade.

     
  Umbrella Pine

A rare tropical looking beauty that resembles small umbrellas at the ends. Dense and compact branched when young, but will loosen slightly with age. It is slow-growing but long-loved. Its growth habit is pyramidal in nature and can reach 25’-35’ T and 15’-20’ W. We will all have a few more wrinkles by the time these specimens reach maturity.. We have have a dwarf varieity that will only grow 10’ T.

Spirited Golden Hinoki Cypress
Chamaecyparis obtusa "Spirited"

This new and hard-to-find introduction from NC's conifer expert, Paul Jones, is a seedling from Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Crippsii'. The foliage best resembles a dwarf golden Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Graciosa' with very dainty lace-like foliage. In our rock garden, this is one of the few dwarf golden chamaecyparis that doesn't foliage-burn. Full Sun or light morning shade. 4’ T x 3’ W.

Korean Stewartia
Stewartia koreana

This gorgeous specimen is somewhat pyramidal in it growth habits. It will reach 30’ T but only 15’-20’ W. These trees boast dark green leaves that turn to lovely shades of orange, red and purple in fall. Over a period from June to July, this tree is decorated with lovely, pure white, yellow-centered blossoms, three inches across and flattened, appearing much like a single camellia flower. The bark of Korean Stewartia is probably the most outstanding characteristic, with orange/brown patches showing through the flaking, gray bark. Full Sun.

Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar

This is truly a unique plant. Its branches feature a flowing growth habit, sometimes described as cascading like water over a bed of rocks. This wonderful weeping conifer has the same evergreen, bluish needles as the common deodar cedar. The weeping, twisting, long branches, that are crowded with bright blue needles, drape around the trunk. Weeping blue atlas cedar, with its unusual characteristics, is a perfect candidate as a specimen plant. The plant deserves a special place where it will be sure to catch the eye and hold the interest of any visitor to the garden. Grows to 10 feet tall and 15 feet wide.

Weigela Florida "rubidor"

Put on your sunglasses! Bright, neon foliage and the ruby-red flowers will make this a real attention grabber in your landscape. They will go 4’ T x 4’ W. The leaves turn orange/red throughout the summer and they flower for 2-3 months! Full sun or ½ day of shade, makes this a great understory shrub or it can be used as a colorful backdrop.
